This is the story of the Normandy Stonehedge by Amore Homes Inc.
And that's Amore Design...
We imagined an old, very significant piece of property in the Normandy region of France used by several country
gentlemen as a hunting getaway many, many years ago, dating back to one of the Dukes of Normandy.
This piece of property consisted of four small buildings and had very strong British influences mixed with the
French country design. During the renovation, three of the buildings were attached to create the main house, and
the other was left standing alone as a sportsman’s garage.
The kitchen area is meant to look as though the three main buildings were all attached here to create the ‘heart’
of the home. We imagined the Hearth room was a summer kitchen building and made all the woodwork to look as if it
were original and restored, then plastered the walls to create a separate feel. The kitchen and laundry area were
part of a small barn to house the animals the hunters would have brought with them, such as horses and a goat. The
beams in the kitchen were plastered to look like a low barn ceiling and the exterior walls of the 2-car attached
garaged were created with a dimensional brick, as if the walls were very thick. The detached 1-car garage, used as
a sports garage, would have been the carriage house where they stored the carriage while they were on their
hunting trip.
All the custom woodworking was made on-site. We tried to achieve an authentic look with all of the fixtures and
hardware we chose, trying to get a look of reclaimed and restored items for the house.
We wanted to show how you can have the best of the latest technology yet get the look of an old and charming home
at the same time. The house has a fully-integrated Bose sound system and home network. There are security, central
vac, intercom and energy efficient HVAC systems. The shower in the master bath has all of the latest spa features
and there is a hidden plasma screen TV behind a mirror over the tub. Our theatre room is a multi-purpose room with
a retractable screen over three large windows so it can be used for a game/play/poker room.
We created two distinct outdoor rooms to enhance the enjoyment of the beautiful setting: the patio area with outdoor
fireplace and the screened porch. The landscaping was planned in order to take advantage of the best parts of the
site and to appear that the home had been here for many years.
This home is meant to be a peaceful retreat which embraces all who enter.
